16. Do you belong to any cosplay groups? If so, what are they?
I am not in any ‘official cosplay groups’ but I have hung out with groups before, and have friends I’ve done ‘group cosplay’ with before. I’d love to be in an official ‘group’ and do more group cosplays but I dunno if I live near any…? Also I’d not wanna join a group for the sake of joining, it’d be cause I wanted to hang out with the people in it as friends. c:
(lol forgot to do this for a while - I WILL finish it 30 days in a row or not!)
15. Your least favorite thing about cosplay
- Sweating to death (When cosplaying at summer cons).
- Missing out on seeing con events - if you are in a cumbersome costume (one hard to see out of and/or that is hard to move around in) and are in it most of the day.
- Not getting to hang with some friends as much if they are in different series costumes then yours and are always off somewhere else
(IT’S STILL WORTH EVERY SECOND)
14. Your cosplay-making habits (eg. singing while working on cosplay)
I do what many my age do and listen to music as I work! Dance, pop, techno, all get me going. I also like to work with a friend if I can (just alongside i mean), my friend Vanessa also makes stuff and she is great to work next to. I lay my stuff out, set aside time, and WORK.
I usually work in spurts. Like a day of work then days of nothing, I procrastinate terribly but if I have a BIG thing to work on I NEVER do it in the days before. I ‘procrastinate responsibly’ as it were. If I have a deadline I work towards it ad budget myself realistically for most things.
Also candy. Lots of candy.
And if I gotta stay up late to work on a crunch, SUNKIST BABY.
And I recently have discovered Venom.
13. Your cosplay specialty (ie. something that seems to apply to a large amount of your cosplays, it could be a specific series, or a common feature in their appearance, such as glasses)
Hummm I’d have to say my specialty would be props. That may seem generic, but I go all out when it comes to accessories and props (and make sure my props are accurate, strong, and built to last). I’m also pretty good at cross play, and 2/3 of my costumes were male characters. Like my costumes have nothing in common really otherwise, I’ve done stuff from so many different series.
12. Your cosplay Idol
I actually don’t have just ONE idol. But people who really inspired / have impressed me are:
Volpin: (Prop master of DOOM, god I aspire to this awesome)
Beastcub: (Maker of really amazing quadsuits)
Beetlecat : (Maker of realism style fursuits of airbrushed amazing)
Hezachan: (Just looks so damn good, and makes stuff too!)
And these peeps I also fan girl over (besides being epic inspired/impressed too!):
Chocolate Decadence: (Hottest/most badass Spy cosplayer in the world)
Leaux: Medic of doom <3
DLGR: (Friend from college who also is the top cross-player Xaldin in the world):
11. Something cosplay-related that you will never do (eg. crossplay, cosplay from a certain series)
Unless it’s wildly skimpy, gross, or offensive, I’d pretty much do anything from anything. And you all know me, I LOVE cross-play.
Like even if it was a series I didn’t watch I’d do it for a group cosplay with friends. I really can’t think of any characters or series I despise to the point of being AGAINST cosplaying it. It would just suck to cosplay something I don’t know cause then when fans of it run up to me I couldn’t act out stuff well for them.
Once I was swept up into an organization 13 group with friends, and I picked to be Larxene (when presented with the ones left I could pick to be). I didn’t know Kingdom Hearts at all at the time (also had never played it), so I did a little research on my character, so I’d not be totally inept, despite not caring about the series. Ended up finding it was pretty cool!
PS: We hooked the family computer up to the generator, so doing this from there! Man I miss my computer :(
10. The dream cosplay that will never happen
Beelzemon (Digimon Tamers)
I WANT to just, well it’s so complex (To do RIGHT) and I think I’d be so OCD about it cause I love this character so much and I’d never get it completed. Maybe one day.
Kyubimon (Quadsuit) (From Digimon Tamers)
Haku (large bunraku puppet)
Well it COULD happen just…I don’t see it happening anytime soon.
Mimi and Sheshe (Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch)
Would require someone to do it with me. I’d need someone shorter or taller than me (I wouldn’t mind being either), AND be willing to do yuri AND wear scanty clothes.
9. The dream cosplay that might just happen
The ones I mentioned in my last post are pretty lofty and dreamy and actually possible…also the one I JUST completed was like a dream come true too. (Tentaspy).
Other cosplays I could see actually happening that I’d want to do:
Yugo (from Wakfu)
Ranke (From Cool Cool Toon)
Mono (From Magic Pengel)
8. Your cosplay plans for the rest of the year (if you have no more for this year, then do next year!)
My next cosplay goal is to hopefully finish a costume I began in 2008, a realistically proportioned Okami Quadsuit. I wanted to do this for two reason - I LOVED loved the game and characters, and secondly, I’ve yet to see a ‘true to design’ Okami cosplay. I’ve seen many, but they are are either too bulky, too cartoony, or just plain bad.
Well long story short I did not get it done in time, and I threw together parts from it for a last minute cute human version for Otakon 2008:
But it’s SUPPOSED to be this:
(Pardon the shitty old sketch, also don’t mind the technical details…it’ll all make sense in the final).
Trying best over human form to look like:
I’ve done lots of details done things for it, like I have all the feet wings and the shoulder wings, the disc and it’s harness, the tail, and the bodysuit / a lot of the foam padding glued on, I also own all the fur fabric I need. Just gotta keep going haha.
Also really wanna do this design from back in 2008, a NiGHTS into Dreams bunraku puppet cosplay (click through for larger):
7. The character you have cosplayed that is most similar to you (if none that you have cosplayed, then one that you will cosplay)
I don’t know if they mean in looks or personality. Looks wise I’ve been told I’m a chameleon, and made a dead on Shino/Shibi.
In terms of a character being like me, being BLU Medic was pretty natural. I know some German, love lab coats and gloves, lol-big-syringes, and am a little eccentric for SCIENCE.
Close second would be my Okami human version, I got to be my quiet, refined, tree-hugger side, walk around in socks and fluffy clothes, and be a little nuzzly-animal like.
6. Your favorite cosplay (that you have done)
It’s really hard to choose ONE favorite. Choosing a favorite also comes from how much fun I had being the character, how proud I was of the costume’s construction, to the fandom around it too.
I’ve really had a blast being Medic / Spy / Tentaspy. The fandom is a riot (and super talented), I’ve met so many friends, and the costumes have fun props that really show off my skills, not to mention being a water monster, and a crazy German doctor, is a dream come true for me. It’s been a very positive cosplay experience.
From not so recent excitement, my favorite would have to be Aburame Shibi:
Which was my first time doing a true crossplay where I was fooling people, it was a genderfuck blast to have people going ‘HOLY shit you’re a girl!’ when I talked, breaking the illusion. I love LOVE high collars with sunglasses, I felt like such a cool mofo, and the coat is super comfy. I also was proud of all the details I made for the costume, including the made-from-scratch fully lined jacket. Not to mention I love LOVE the Aburmae clan, and felt proud to be the only one in the world doing justice to it, and a fully accurate Shibi cosplay.
Bug love forever <3
5. Blatant self plug! Link us to your cosplay page, be it dA, ACP, Coscom, whatever!
Here is my Cosplay.com page, which I consider my ‘Cosplay home’. I also made a Flicker club to keep some Cosplay photostream pics in (cause I have a free account and only the first 300 show in my own steam/sets). Lastly here is my DA folder with all my cosplay deviations. :)
4. Your cosplay communities, where do you go to talk about cosplay?
I mostly just have cosplay circles of friends, and the only cosplay site I go to to talk about cosplay would be cosplay.com, where I’ll post on the message boards before a con to organize or look at shoots and gatherings. :) Other than that I just swap cosplay build ideas with said friends, or discuss upcoming costumes too. Usually my cosplays sync up with a fandom so mostly I’ll just be active in that FANDOM community wise.
30 Day Cosplay Challenge - Day 3
# 3. Your most recent cosplay.
That’s an easy one :’D my Tentaspy cosplay. To be specific I cosplayed my OC Tentaspy Dominique. I attached two new photos I found too, to this post. (Original source) Freaks me out still every time I look at myself how well my legs disappear in most shots. If you want to see details of making the costume search through my in progress tag, or see the cosplay.com page here.
God I swear I got the best photos taken of me EVER at this Otakon, so much quality all around. That or everyone is buying new cameras.
Gonna eat that bird, gonna do it.
2. How many costumes have you done?
I’ve been making halloween costumes from scratch with my parents since I was like 5. I was a spider, a rainbow, a butterfly, a solar system…that last one you don’t even wanna know the custom rig we did when I was in 5th grade! LOL
- But anyway: COSPLAYS I’ve done/preformed - 16 costumes.
Everything scratch made or Goodwill altered, with technical expertise from my amazing father for things like the Yue wing / ear rig (made with brass, VW curtain rods, and bike spoke parts), Top Medigun handle, strap connection on my Shibi gourd, and new wood Balisong handles (with latch).
I also have to credit Orochimaru to my friends Neko and Kelly who made the main parts for me as a gift (the tunic, pants, and epic purple butt bow.)
